Everyone says their picks "sound like tortoise shell," but consider this. I bought my first TS picks from McCabe's Guitars in 1977, after the international CITES treaty was signed by 150 nations and they were clearing out their inventory. Here's a trippy thing to consider. Casein is make from a Mammalian protein: tortoise shell is made from a Reptilian protein. If one considers evolution, one could reach a reasonable conclusion that these two natural materials have a similar molecular structure. 
 
Our thin casein models are (still) mostly fabricated mostly by hand -- they are a true artisan product, folks. NO ONE does this kind of work other than CLP.
