doing our part to preserve a precious natural resource
For the longest time I've felt a deep personal calling to do something about the plight of the world’s sea turtles, especially the Hawksbill Sea Turtle, which has been the sole source of “tortoise shell picks” for hundreds of years. The Hawksbill, even though protected by CITES, has been slaughtered and poached to the brink of extinction. Of the seven species of sea turtles existing in the world today, it is by far the most endangered.
We wanted to do something about it.
Beginning in the fall of 2022 Charmed Life Picks launched the music industry's first sea turtle preservation project, an ongoing program to raise money for the protection of sea turtles and their habitat.
Perhaps I feel the weight of this calling from the memory of my father and the exemplary life he led. My father, Franklin Charles Memmer, was a biology teacher and early ecologist who taught me to love and revere and protect our natural world. Here's a picture of he and my mother Carolyn in their earlier days.
Although Dad died in 2012, he cast a long shadow about the stewardship our lands and seas. So I dedicate this to your memory, Pop, and to you too, Mom.
